On ¡¸Jeon Che Kong Yong Moon Tap¡¹

Abstract
Jeon Che Kong Yong Moon Tap is the first textbook of physiology published by Ewha Hakdang. The book which has a Korean format consist of 70 pages of which 68 pages are the main contents and the rest the table of terms. Its size is 14.9 cm by 22.2 cm. The book was lost and not known to the public. However, the first edition which Soongjun University had has recently been found and accordingly its contents have been known. It is most fortunate that a part of the unclear history of Ewha School¢¥s publication has come to be known.
At the time when the physiology book was published, this was a new event and was reported on April 14, 1899 edition of the Toklip Newspaper. In the newspaper a part of the book on the effect of smoking and drinking upon human body was quoted and in-troduced. It is presumed that the revised second and third editions appeared in 1905 and 1908 respectively and that the textbook was used until 1910. The level of this book is elementary. But since this book was the first physiology textbook, it has the new West-ern medical concepts quite different from those of the Oriental medicine, new translated terms, ingenious Korean names of the parts of human body, and etc. Since we are pre-sently using the medical terms translated from the Chinese and the Japanese words, this book is of great importance.
